Here is one, made just now: 2. 24bytes A fresh nonce every single time something is sealed — so the same words never look the same twice. This one keeps changing: 3. 256MiB The memory Argon2id spends, over three passes, on hashing your password — making every guess slow and expensive. 4. 0bytes Of what you write in the app — note content, vault values, prompts and files — that our servers can read. VI · Field questions ## Frequently asked questions Something else? Write to [support@mementosite.me](mailto:support@mementosite.me). ### What does zero-knowledge mean? Your content is encrypted on your device with keys our servers never hold in usable form, so we can't read it. Some metadata isn't encrypted, such as note titles, tags, folder names, saved links and file names. [Our Security page](https://mementosite.me/security) lists exactly what we can see. ### What happens if I forget my password? Reset it from the sign-in page with a 6-digit code we email you. The code expires after 15 minutes. Your encryption key isn't derived from your password, so devices you've already set up keep access to your content. A new device needs approval from one of those devices in Settings → Device Access, and clearing site data removes the key from that browser. If you lose every device that holds your key, we can't recover your encrypted content unless you set up a recovery key. ### Which platforms are supported? Memento runs in modern web browsers, including on phones, and can be installed as an app (PWA). It's built for current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, and passkey unlock needs Face ID, Touch ID or Windows Hello. There's no native mobile app. A desktop app for macOS (Apple silicon and Intel), Windows and Linux is in development and hasn't been released yet. A Chrome extension is in beta and isn't in the Chrome Web Store yet. ### Does Memento work offline? Yes, once it has loaded on your device. A service worker caches the app, your data is kept in the browser's IndexedDB, and changes you make offline are queued and uploaded automatically when you reconnect. ### How does sync work? Each change goes to our server over HTTPS, with its content already encrypted. The server then pushes the update over a WebSocket to your other signed-in devices, for notes, folders, vault items, prompts and links. If two devices change the same item, Memento shows a conflict screen where you keep one version or merge them. ### Can I export my data? Yes. Import & Export builds a ZIP in your browser with your notes as Markdown, HTML, plain text, PDF, Rich Text or JSON. You can export everything, one folder, a date range or chosen tags, or make an encrypted JSON backup that keeps notes as ciphertext. You can also save a single note as PDF or PNG, export links as a browser bookmarks file, and export prompts as JSON. ### Can I bring my notes from another app? Yes. Memento imports from Google Keep, Notion, Obsidian, Evernote, Apple Notes, Bear, Simplenote, Joplin, Markdown files and JSON backups, and can detect the format for you. Files are parsed in your browser, and each note is encrypted before it's uploaded. ### Can I share a note? Yes, by link. Your browser re-encrypts the note with a new random key and puts that key after the # in the link, a part of the address browsers don't send to servers. Links can expire after 1 hour, 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days, or never, and can require a password. Anyone with the full link (and the password, if you set one) can read the note. ### Are there limits during the beta? Each account has 40 MB of storage for attachments, a note can hold up to 100,000 characters, and up to 5 uploads can run at once. Memento is [free during beta](https://mementosite.me/pricing). ### Is my data used to train AI? No. Memento doesn't send your content to any AI service today, and we don't use it to train AI models. We can't read your encrypted content at all. ### How will the upcoming AI features keep my content private? Semantic search, note summaries and tagging suggestions are planned. They work on content your device has already decrypted, so plaintext never reaches Memento's servers. Using them will mean sending the content you choose to an AI provider for processing.
